Buju Banton Release Date Approaches

In 2015, the US Justice Department announced it would be giving 6,600 inmates an early release, with eh hope of reducing the overcrowding problem they face in their prisons, and provide relief to drug offenders who received harsh sentences.

Since being incarcerated in 2011, the Dancehall/Reggae has obviously gone through some major changes with the rise of artists like Vybz Kartel, Alkaline and Tommy Lee Sparta in the Dancehall scene. Reggae meanwhile has had contributions from the likes of Chronixx, Kabaka Pyramid, Iba Mahr and many more.

Most people still agree though that there is still a place for Buju Banton in this industry. He will hopefully return to his prominent position as one of the most consistent and versatile contributors this industry has ever seen.

In the words of Bobby Digital who has worked on several projects with Buju and is the producer of hits like Till I’m Laid to Rest and Good Looking Gal;

“He will bring back joy to the people. Since Mark is not in the picture, you can see an empty space in the industry, one that only he can fill. He is a true entertainer who sounds the same on record and on stage. A no one a dem man deh who inna the bag a pull up ting. Is a musical legend dat, and I do hope they have something big planned for his homecoming,”

Here is one of Buju’s last interviews before he was incarcerated. You can see and feel the power of his humility. Truly one of the greats
